This 500m swim is held in the Calm Peconic Bay of Southold with the 7 mile bike and 3.5 mile run winding through the heart of Long Island’s Wine Country. EventPower’s Mighty North Fork Sprint Triathlon is a great kick off to the triathlon season for the southern part of New York. It attracts many from all over the area and all ages. In fact, the youngest being about 14.
The waters are starting to warm up around Long Island. However, Zachary opted to go sans wetsuit and finished First in the Aquabike! Olivia had the fastest swim of the day and Andrew was not too far behind! Afterwards, many participants talked about the washing machine effect of the swim start with many racers starting at the same time, but these warriors were not phased at all. Even, the fish heads floating the water did not bother them!
The day started out cloudy and the sun came out in time for announcing the podium finishers. To round out the podium, Andrew 3rd Place AG, and Olivia 1st Place Overall with a prize including Tate’s Cookies and a Nice Bottle of Wine for her Parents!
The event finished off with 22 Pushups to promote awareness for veteran suicide prevention.
It was great was to see a few more young people do this race for the first time. More importantly, for those that have done this race previously to see progress in 1 year! We are very excited to see what unfolds for the rest of 2019!
